SPECIAL EVENT
Polish, Israeli, German and Russians musicians will perform in the underground water supply cistern in Stoki. The "Underground cathedral" is one of the most beautiful places in Łódź. An exclusive version of the concert is scheduled in the underground cathedral in Stoki. The event has been organized with the A. Rubinstein Łódź Philharmonic and the ZWiK management. The music of four cultures will sound within the brick walls of the cistern.
Artists from four countries – Yuval Gotlibovich from Israel, Maciej Łabecki from Poland, Konstantin Manaew from Russia and Max Simon from Germany – will perform four quartets: by Grażyna Bacewicz, Erwin Schulhoff, Aleksander Tansman and Mieczysław Weinberg.
It will be a unique event, open to a small audience. The enormous drinking water cisterns in Stoki are called the "underground cathedral." One hundred brick columns are standing on 3.6 thousand square meters. To a visitor, they look like an authentic Gothic cathedral. This impression is reinforced by great arch-cross vaults. The interior is lined with red stone. In the cistern, every day 100 thousand m3 of water is stored, flowing from deep wells, Sulejów Reservoir and the Pilica River. The cistern is located in one of the highest points of Łódź. We are planning to record the underground concert in its entirety.
